[ARCHIVED] 2019 Open Book and Board of Review

Open Book and Board of Review

City Assessor Paul Musser will be sending property assessment notices during the week of April 8.  Assessment notices will only be sent to property owners that have assessment changes in 2019.  If you are interested in viewing your current assessment, it is available on your tax bill, on the Rock County website, or on the City's website.

Open Book will begin Monday, April 15, and run through Friday, May 3.  Open Book is an annual opportunity for property owners to discuss their assessment, whether it changed or not, with the City Assessor to potentially have their assessment adjusted.  Property owners can make an appointment to discuss in person or over the phone their assessment with Assessor Musser any time during the Open Book period.  Assessor Musser is also scheduled to be at City Hall on Thursday, April 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Open Book appointments.  There may not be sufficient time for walk-ins on April 25, so it is best to schedule an appointment.  The preferred method of contact is to email him at musser.apprz@frontier.com, but he is also available by calling (608) 712-0236.

The Board of Review is a committee of five citizens that hears objections from property owners regarding their assessments if a resolution is not found with the City Assessor during Open Book.  Property owners must file an objection with City Clerk Leanne Schroeder, who serves as the Board of Review Clerk, by Monday, May 20, if they would like to have their assessment reviewed by the Board of Review.  The Board of Review meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

If there are any questions about Open Book or Board of Review, property owners can contact City Clerk Leanne Schroeder at (608) 868-6900 ext. 2 or Finance Director / Treasurer Dan Nelson at (608) 868-6900 ext. 3.  Assessor Musser is also available to answer questions.
