The City of Milton is working with Derek Henze, 4th of July Parade Coordinator, on organizing and managing the 4th of July Parade. In order to best manage the parade, there are some changes that will take place. The City of Milton and Mr. Henze wanted to notify residents living on the parade route and other potential parade attendees of the changes so plans can be made in advance.
The changes for the 2017 4th of July Parade are as follows:
- Madison Avenue will be closed starting at Noon on the 4th of July. Previously, the road did not close until 12:30 p.m., which did not allow enough time for Department of Public Works staff to efficiently close the roads. Closing Madison Avenue earlier will also create a clear and safe path for the Glory Wagon to continue the distribution of flags on the parade route. If you are hosting a parade viewing party at your residence, please ensure that guests arrive prior to Noon on the 4th of July. If not, then they will need to park their vehicle on a side street and walk to the viewing party location.
- Handicap Parking will be available at Milton West Elementary School in the circle drive and at Milton Middle School.
- All parade entrants must be in place by Noon on the 4th of July. This will allow the Department of Public Works to close Madison Avenue at noon and complete other road closure and detour tasks prior to the start of the parade.
- Two detours will be established. The regular detour route that moves traffic along Sunset Drive will be set up as usual. However, truck traffic and traffic that doesn’t want to or need to go through Milton will have the option of taking County N to travel between Hwy 59 and Janesville Street (former State Highway 26).
