The City of Milton was recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 2022 and received a Growth Award.
The Tree City USA Growth Award is presented by the Arbor Day Foundation to participating Tree City USA communities that demonstrate higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year. There are various criteria available with points associated to determine if the community is eligible for a growth award.
The City of Milton qualified for the Growth Award under the following criteria:
- A3 - Grant Applications: The City of Milton applied for two grants and received one, which allowed for additional trees to be planted in 2022.
- A7 - Supervising Arborist and A9 - Additional Credentials: Cody Price, Crew Person/Arborist for the City of Milton, obtained his arborist certification in 2022. and his job description was updated to include the Arborist assignment.
- D6 - Planting-to-Removal Ratio: The planting to removal ratio was 76:40, which shows the City planted more trees than were removed in 2022.
