Update 5/27/2023 at 8 a.m.
The weather looks fantastic today for the Gravestone Preservation Workshop at the Milton Cemetery on N. Janesville Street! The workshop will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
If you are planning to attend, here are a few suggestions:
- Wear old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and bring old towels or paper towels to wipe off any excess cleaning product or dirt from your hands.
- Water bottles will be available, but feel free to bring your own as well.
- Sunscreen and bug spray will be beneficial to bring.
- A stool or kneeling pad may be helpful as you work on cleaning a stone.

The Historic Preservation Commission is hosting a FREE Gravestone Preservation Workshop at the Milton Cemetery on N. Janesville Street on May 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in recognition of Historic Preservation Month.
The workshop will be led by Historic Preservation Commissioner Julie Marquardt. Julie completed the Gravestone Preservation Workshop with Atlas Preservation as part of their Restoring America’s Cemeteries 48 State Tour in July 2022. Julie is excited to show the Milton community the different techniques and products used for restoration of gravestones.
Sign up by May 5 by calling (608) 868-6900 ext. 5 or online at www.milton-wi.gov/Workshop.
While the workshop is free, the commission wants an approximate participant number so they can ensure there are enough supplies available.
